Jennifer Vena, Vice President

Ms. Vena has more than 20 years of experience conducting dependent care needs assessments and developing strategic work/life balance initiatives for clients. Through her tenure with the company, she has been the project manager on multi-site comprehensive dependent care needs assessments for organizations such as the University of Southern California and America Online. She has also conducted child care center feasibility studies for a variety of companies including Abercrombie & Fitch, Applied Biosystems, Immunex, Ingram Micro, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, PIMCO and Sony Computer Entertainment America. Additional HR consulting engagements have included quantifying the demand for center expansion and assisting clients with the positioning and branding of their work/life balance offerings. Ms. Vena has also consulted on the design of several workplace child care centers in California including centers sponsored by Universal Studios and Pacific Gas & Electric. Ms. Vena advises on Horizons Workforce Consulting’s research projects, which have included: an investment impact study that measured the effects work-site child care centers have had on eight organizations; a comprehensive investigation into the dependent care needs of nurses throughout the United States and their preferred dependent care supports; and a study in conjunction with Simmons School of Management regarding the new workforce reality and understanding the motivations and priorities of employees today and in the future. Ms. Vena holds a B.A. in sociology from UCLA.

Dave Thomas, Senior Director, New Center Planning & Strategy

Dave has principal responsibility for supporting site and facility investigations as they relate to new employer-based child care center opportunities. In this effort, maintains and coordinates the national network of preferred architects for BH including managing referrals and project assignments. Dave also supports consulting projects as appropriate and the on-boarding of new Client Services Directors as this process involves understanding our center product line (new development). In Dave’s prior roles with Bright Horizons, he has been responsible for client relationships and new business development throughout various parts of the United States and other geographic regions on a strategic basis. Dave has worked to develop and implement dependent care programs for organizations representing a diverse array of industries including Motorola, Takeda Pharmaceuticals North America, Allstate Insurance, University of Chicago, Lake Forest Hospital, Toyota Motor Manufacturing of North America, the Government Services Administration, G.E. Medical Systems, Abbott Labs, Union Pacific, Alexian Brothers Medical Center, Amgen Puerto Rico and others. Dave graduated from Kenyon College with a Bachelor of Arts in history and received his Master of Business Administration from Northwestern’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management. He worked for Harris Bank in Chicago in a financial analyst capacity from 1981-1987 and as a Vice President of the Commercial Banking Department from 1987-1990. Dave has over twenty-five years of experience in the child care industry. He came to Bright Horizons through the GreenTree Child Care Management Services Division of the ServiceMaster Company, where he had been principally responsible for new business development. Dave is based in Chicago at Bright Horizons’ Chicago Regional Office.

Andrea Wicks Bowles, Senior Consultant, Director, Strategic Initiatives

Ms. Wicks Bowles works with clients to enhance the effectiveness of employee contributions through beneficial talent management strategies that strengthen their organizational position as an employer of choice. During her tenure with Horizons Workforce Consulting, Ms. Wicks Bowles has performed: consulting engagements across the life stages for clients such as Cornell University and Merrill Lynch; investigations of the international work/life needs for employees of Rogers Communications; and measurement of the impact of work/life balance investments on business performance measures for clients like GlaxoSmithKline and Riverside Health Systems. Her international HR consulting has included work with financial services and telecommunications industries in India and Canada. Ms. Wicks Bowles has presented at national venues including WorldatWork, Working Mother, and the Conference Board. With more than two decades of experience in work/life consulting, Ms. Wicks Bowles joined Bright Horizons in 2004. Formally with WFD and then Ceridian for 14 years, Ms. Wicks Bowles developed dependent care strategies and community development initiatives for FORTUNE 500 companies. In 1996, Ms. Wicks Bowles relocated to the UK and helped to establish LifeWorks, a service of WFD that served the work/life balance needs of U.S. clients with a presence in the UK and to reach UK based companies to support the challenges of managing work and family care responsibilities. Ms. Wicks Bowles holds a B.S. in sociology from University of Colorado and an M.S. in education from Bank Street College. She is an alumnus of the Denver Community Leadership Program.

Lucy English, Managing Director, Institutional Research

Dr. English manages HR consulting projects and serves as a resource for Horizons Workforce Consulting on survey design, implementation, and analytics. Dr. English also leads Bright Horizons’ corporate research investigations on the efficacy of work/life balance programs as strategic business tools, and presents research findings at national human resources conferences. From 1996 to 2002, Dr. English was a sociology professor at Moravian College where she was granted tenure in 2002. In that role, she taught social research methods and conducted independent research. She joined Bright Horizons in 2003 as an HR consultant. Dr. English’s clients have included Harvard University, Yale University, North Carolina State University, Pennsylvania State University, Columbia University, Abbott Labs, Merrill Lynch World Headquarters, and Anheuser Busch. Dr. English holds a B.A. from the University of Redlands, and an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

Dee Stuart, Senior Consultant

Ms. Stuart serves as a senior consultant with Horizons Workforce Consulting. In this role, she works in partnership with her clients to determine how to best address their employees’ work/life challenges within the framework of their organization’s goals. Ms. Stuart joined Bright Horizons Family Solutions in 2002 with more than 20 years of experience in the work/life and child care industry. Formerly a regional manager, she was responsible for the operations and financial performance of seven child care centers. As a consultant, Ms. Stuart has completed projects for numerous clients including: AOL, BHP Billiton, Biogen, CGG, Hannah Senesh Community Day School, Houston Methodist Hospital, kbs+, Lexmark, Midland Memorial Hospital, P&G, SuddenLink, Teradyne, and Texas Tech University and Wilson Medical Center. Ms. Stuart has a Bachelor’s of Science in early childhood education from Keene State College, and a Master’s of Science in counseling and human resource development from University of Bridgeport.

Ingrid Shelton, Senior Consultant

Ms. Shelton assists clients in understanding employees’ dependent care issues and their impacts on the workplace, as well as developing customized strategic organizational responses. Ms. Shelton joined Horizons Workforce Consulting with 15 years in the financial industry as a benefits consultant and a sales manager. She brings experience in project management of customized work/life balance initiatives as well as influencing cultural changes impacting productivity, retention, and ROI on dependent care HR strategies and work/life programs. Ms. Shelton’s clients have included Newell Rubbermaid, Kimberly-Clark, Applied Physics Labs, Blue Cross Blue Shield Nebraska, RJ Reynolds, Emory University, Washington and Lee University, University of Central Florida, Baptist Health South Florida, Self Regional Hospital Systems, and The Breakers. Ingrid frequently presents new research to HR groups across the country. She also provides consulting for organizations wishing to align their tuition assistance programs with organizational goals as well as industry best practices. Ms. Shelton received a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from University of Georgia.

Kristin D. Henderson, Senior Research Analyst

Ms. Henderson is principally responsible for interpreting survey data, formulating reports and making recommendations based upon the research findings. She works with clients to understand and define the business objects behind the study and then designs the survey and applies qualitative and quantitative techniques to interpret the data and produce substantiated recommendations. In addition, Ms. Henderson supports any independent research conducted by Horizons Workforce Consulting. Prior to joining Horizons Workforce Consulting, Ms. Henderson worked for a global market research firm, specializing in tracking and understanding consumer buying behavior. With over ten years of experience working in market research, she has an extensive background in both custom and syndicated research. Ms. Henderson received a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics and education from Colgate University.

Rachel T. Hill, Research Analyst

Dr. Hill serves as a research analyst for Horizons Workforce Consulting. She primarily designs and manages the administration of surveys and other research tools for clients as well as for internal Bright Horizons purposes. She performs statistical data analysis and crafts data visualization with the resulting survey data to provide actionable insights and recommendations to consultants, clients, and Bright Horizons colleagues. In addition, Rachel is a key contributor to any independent research projects conducted by Horizons Workforce Consulting. Dr. Hill holds a B.A. in psychology from Rhodes College, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in industrial-organizational psychology from Louisiana State University. Dr. Hill’s academic research background in work-family conflict and family-specific work support, as well as well-being, turnover intentions, and work engagement, provides a unique depth of expertise that benefits Horizons Workforce Consulting clients. Additionally, Rachel has held prior internships with Walmart and Horizons Workforce Consulting.
